			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class="blue_header">Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarships &#8211; Singapore</div>
<p>The Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarships (“Scholarships”) were established from donations received from the Lee Foundation and are the University’s most prestigious scholarship awards for graduate students.</p>
<p>The selection of candidates will take place once a year, in time for the start of the academic year in August.  Up to 5 new Scholarships will be given each year. Not all Scholarships will be awarded unless there are candidates of sufficient merit.</p>
<div class="blue_header">Eligibility</div>
<p>The Scholarships are open to students of all nationalities who gain admission to any Ph.D. programme at the University. In keeping with the donor’s wishes, the Scholarships will be awarded to well-rounded individuals showing exceptional promise who have an appropriate balance of intellect and character. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and a commitment to service.</p>
<p>Each award covers:</p>
<p>(i)       A monthly stipend of S$3,300;</p>
<p>(ii)      Tuition, examination fees and other approved fees at NUS as stated on the NUS Student Bill;</p>
<p>(iii)     An annual book allowance of S$500;</p>
<p>(iv)     A one-off air travel allowance of two return tickets of up to S$4,000 (only for overseas students); subject to a maximum of</p>
<p>S$2,000 per ticket; and</p>
<p>(v)      A one-off laptop allowance of S$1,500;</p>
<div class="blue_header">Award Period</div>
<p>The award is tenable for a maximum of 4 years, subject to an annual review of the scholar’s satisfactory progress. It may be renewed annually. The maximum period of award is 4 years.</p>
<p>No Bond is required.<br />
Incoming Ph.D. candidates will have to indicate their interest in the Scholarship via the <span style="text-decoration: underline;">NUS Graduate Research Programme Application System.<br />
</span></p>
<p>Apart from the other supporting documents required for Ph.D. admission, candidates interested in the Scholarship must also submit a personal essay and a record of co-curricular activities or community service. Short-listed candidates will be invited to an interview either in Singapore or their home country.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The ASEAN Foundation (AF) and National University of Singapore (NUS) have entered into a new agreement to develop high quality human resources within ASEAN member countries through the ASEAN Foundation Research Scholarship.</p>
<p>The ASEAN Foundation, an initiative of the Leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), was established on 15 December 1997 to help bring about shared prosperity and a sustainable future for the peoples of all ASEAN countries. It has been mandated to promote greater awareness of ASEAN and greater interaction among its peoples and their increased participation in ASEAN activities as well as to undertake development cooperation activities that enhance mutual assistance, address equitable economic development and reduce poverty.  This scholarship programme is part of the ASEAN Foundation Scholarships for Postgraduate Studies and funded through the Japan-ASEAN Solidarity Fund.</p>
<p>These scholarships are available for ASEAN nationals (except Singapore citizens and permanent residents) who wish to pursue a Masters Degree by research in NUS.  Selection of successful applicants will be based on merit.</p>
<p>a) Eligibility</p>
<p>These scholarships are open to bonafide nationals of an ASEAN country (except Singapore citizens and permanent residents) and tenable in the following faculties:</p>
<p>* Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences<br />
* School of Business<br />
* School of Design and Environment (Real Estate &amp; Building courses)<br />
* Faculty of Law<br />
* Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy</p>

<p>* Hold a good bachelors degree or its equivalent and possess a strong academic record;<br />
* Satisfy other admission requirements as specified by the faculty/school they apply to;<br />
* Submit a valid Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) result as evidence of their proficiency in the English language (for applicants whose native tongue or medium of university instruction is not English).<br />
* Agree to return and/or serve for at least 2 years in any ASEAN country after completion of their studies.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Laboratory of Inflammation and Cancer (Department of Physiology and NUS Immunology Program) at the National University of Singapore is seeking applications for 3 graduate student (PhD) positions.</p>
<p>Candidates will work on national grant-funded research projects on the molecular and cellular functions of annexin-1 in the immune system and cancer. Specifically, projects will be focused on (i) identifying the importance of stromal vs tumor vs immune annexin-1 in the initiation, promotion and progression of cancer; (ii) therapeutic effectivenss of an annexin-1 derived peptide on initiation, promotion and progression of cancer; (iii) importance of annexin-1 in lymphocyte development.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>
<p>* At least a 2nd upper class Degree (B.Sc. with Honors or Masters) in life sciences or related discipline<br />
* Experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques is desirable<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <strong>Singapore Scholarship</strong> was announced by then Prime Minister of Singapore Mr. Goh Chok Tong at the 6th ASEAN Summit in December 1998. The objective of the Singapore Scholarship at that time was to help alleviate the problem of educating young people in the ASEAN countries due to the regional economic crisis.</p>
<p>The <strong>Singapore Government</strong> awards the scholarship to Government-endorsed student from the other member countries of ASEAN. Each Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate degree course at the Nanyang Technological University, the National University of Singapore and the Singapore Management University. All disciplines <strong>except</strong> for Medicine and Dentistry are open to Scholar. The duration of each Scholarship is for three or four years, depending on the discipline.</p>
<p>The award is based on academic merit and places will be allocated by open competition. If necessary, a one-year bridging or foundation programmed, in addition to the undergraduate studies, will be provided.</p>
<p>To be eligible, a candidate must:</p>
<p>1. Be a citizen in an ASEAN country (Except Singapore)<br />
2. Possess excellent academic records<br />
3. Have a good command in English</p>
<p>Candidates must meet the entry requirements for <strong>Nanyang Technological University</strong>, <strong>National University of Singapore</strong> and <strong>Singapore Management University</strong>. A recipient of the Scholarship may not concurrently hold any scholarship, Fellowship, Grant or award without prior approval of the Singapore Government. The scholars are also expected to return to their countries upon graduation to contribute to the development of their countries.</p>
<p><span id="more-8"></span>The scholarship will cover tuition fees for the duration of the award, a living allowance of S$4,300 per annum, an accommodation allowance based on the different room rates at each university and one return economy class air ticket passage from his/her home country to Singapore for the duration of studies.</p>
<p>Short listed nominees will take the entrance examinations set by the Singapore universities. Nominees are further short listed based on their entrance examination result and will then have to undergo and interview conducted by interviewers from the Singapore Universities. The entrance examinations and interviews will be conducted from February to April 2008 in Jakarta.</p>
<p>Application must be endorsed and submitted by the Indonesian Department of National Education (Bureau of Planning and Foreign Cooperation) at Building C, 6th Floor, JL. Jend. Sudirman, Senayan, Jakarta Pusat. Candidates are required to produce the following:-</p>
<p>* Certificate, endorsement by the former Scholl, for graduated applicants;<br />
* Recommendation from the School Principal, for applicants who are still in grade 3 at SMU.</p>
<p>Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. The deadline for complete application forms to be submitted is 18 December 2007. The decision of the Singapore Government on the selection of Singapore Scholars is final.</p>
