Scholarship Description:Pre-selection is in progress for foreign students applying for a position in a PhD Program for the Academic Year 2011/12.The number of positions funded by the University will be established by the Graduate School after 10 June 2011. Foreign students wishing to apply for admission to a PhD Program for the Academic Year 2011/12 must submit an application no later than 25 April 2011.Some doctoral courses have specific conditions of admission. Foreign students will be evaluated by submitting an online application by 25 April 2011. At the conclusion of the online application process, applicants must attach in electronic format a “pdf” file with a maximum size of 15 MB containing:
1. A Curriculum Vitae with details of achieved degree(s), relevant examination results and/or results of degree requirements with assessment and/or grade (i.e., transcript details), and the date of degree achievement.
2. A research proposal (maximum size of one (1) page on A4 paper)
3. A List of Publications
Foreign students are required to provide two recommendation forms & corresponding letters from two university professors either in Italy or abroad.
Eligible candidates whose application has passed preliminary screening will be invited to take part in a Skype interview with the Coordinator (or their delegate) of the applicant’s desired program of study.
The Doctoral School will publish the list of candidates granted a Skype interview and the timetable of those interviews.

Award holders at NTNU are normally appointed for 4 years with 25% of the time spent on specified work. This work is primarily linked to teaching and is usually divided so that a relatively large part is done in the first half of the period of the appointment.

The appointment is at code 1017, salary level 45-61 in the national salary scheme, gross NOK. 353.000- 468.500 per annum, of which 2% is deducted for the State Pension scheme.

The appointment will be made in accordance with current regulations with relevant parts of “Supplementary guidelines for employment as research fellow at NTNU”.

The goal of the announced position is to obtain a PhD degree. Applicants must agree to participate in organised doctoral study programmes within the period of the appointment. Degree Requirements
Applications for the doctoral positions are accepted from candidates, regardless of gender, age and nationality, who have an Italian “laurea specialistica” or “laurea magistrale” in compliance with Ministerial Decree no. 509 of 3.11.1999 as amended, a university degree of the previously enforced Italian regulations, or an equivalent academic degree obtained abroad.

The degree in scientific areas will be a preferential title.

Applicants who have a foreign degree which has not been officially recognized as equivalent to an Italian degree must submit a request for equivalence in the application.

Grants
The gross amount of the scholarship is Euro 13,638.47 per year 1.

Grants are normally paid bi-monthly and in advance, with the exception of undue payments in case the student is expelled or suspended.

Grants cannot be combined with other scholarships, except those awarded by national or foreign scientific institutes deemed appropriate for the research activities carried out by the doctoral student.
The scholarship will be increased by 50% for research periods spent abroad that are authorized by the Head of the School or by the Doctoral School Committee.

In 2007, the Department of Economics and the Department of Environmental Sciences of the Università Ca’ Foscari of Venice, in collaboration with the Euro-Mediterranean Center for Climate Change (CMCC), have launched a 3-year PhD Programme in Science and Management of Climate Change.

Every year, up to twelve students are enrolled in this Ph.D. programme. All lectures are given in English by internationally renowned professors.

The PhD Programme is organised into two streams:

• Dynamic Climatology at the CMCC Headquarters in Bologna
• Climate Change Impact and Management, at the Department of Economics of the University Ca’ Foscari of Venice

For the year 2009/2010 (25th cycle of Italian PhD Programmes) we offer three scholarships with the financial support of the Euro-Mediterranean Center for Climate Change.

Courses and credits
The courses will start in September 2009.

During the first year, PhD students will attend twelve 5-credit courses (30-40 hours of lectures, seminars or labs per course). Eleven courses are planned in each of the two thematic streams, and students will choose the twelfth one from the list of courses of the other stream. Credits are acquired by attending the courses and passing a final exam.

Tutors
During the first year, each student will be assigned a tutor who will be the main reference of the PhD candidates over the 3-year period. Tutors can be academics or distinguished researchers in disciplinary fields related to the PhD programme.

Thesis
A thesis proposal, coordinated by an academic advisor, must be presented after the first year. The final thesis is due at the end of the three years. An extension is possible in exceptional cases. The thesis, written in English, is reviewed by two international referees.

Prerequisites
In order to apply, students are required to hold an Italian “Laurea magistrale” or an equivalent foreign university degree (e.g. MSc or DEA). Foreign applicants shall provide full documentation of their university studies

, including course profiles. Knowledge of the English language is a necessary prerequisite. Students are required to send proof of their knowledge of English (Toefl, Cambridge Certificate, etc).

Please note: Candidates for the Dynamic Climatology Stream should have a background in mathematics or physics at the BA level. Previous experience with numerical modelling and programming in a UNIX/Linux environment would be desirable, though not essential.

The Stream on “Impact and Management of Climate Change” has a multidisciplinary approach and background on Economics or Enviromental Science are preferably. Proficiency in mathematics is requested e.g. integral and differential calculus, linear algebra.

Students who have already attended other university courses can ask for a credit transfer up to a maximum of 10 credits per year (30 credits in total). Please note that credits achieved in preparatory courses or in the first year/second year in systems where preuniversity education lasts 10/11 years can not be taken into account.

Amount of the scholarship
The gross amount of the Verrès Campus scholarship is 10.000 Euro per year (30.000 Euro for the complete period). The exact net sum is dependent upon the individual tax conditions of each student, which can be verified only upon the arrival of the student.

The amount of the scholarship will not be increased in case the student will need more time to graduate than indicated.

The Eni Corporate University announces a competition for an academic course that leads to a Master’s Degree in Energy and Environmental Management and Economics – MEDEA. The course is organized and managed by the Scuola Enrico Mattei.

The Master is offered to Italian and foreign university graduates that are interested in career paths within firms, authorities and other institutions operating in the energy and environmental sectors. For the Academic Year 2008-2009, the Scuola Enrico Mattei will assign a maximum of 50 scholarships.

Three programs of the MEDEA are offered:

* Energy Industry Economics
* Business Administration in Energy Industry
* Managing Technical Assets in Energy Industry

The program is articulated on three phases, with an increasing degree of specialisation. All profiles consist of preliminary courses,
followed by fundamental courses and by specialisation classes.

The Academic Year runs for ten months, from September 3, 2008 through to June 30, 2009. Full-time attendance is required. Since courses are conducted in Italian and in English, an intensive Italian language course will be held during the summer of 2008. Those who have successfully completed the programme of study will be awarded a Master’s Degree in Energy and Environmental Management and Economics – MEDEA.

REQUIREMENTS
Admission is subject to the following requirements:

The University of Trento is now inviting applications from qualified candidates for its three-year PhD Programme in International Studies. This highly structured multidisciplinary programme is composed of a minimum of 200 hours of coursework. Students follow a common curriculum in International studies, methodology, research design, and history, and attend advanced seminars in their major and minor subjects, chosen from amongst the disciplines of Economics, Law, and Politics & Society. The coursework is concentrated in the first year, with the third semester being devoted to the completion of the research proposal. At least one semester must be spent abroad for research. The school invites applications across the whole range of disciplines comprising international studies, but particularly encourages students who intend to carry out research in the following areas: European and International Politics; European, Comparative and International Law; Open Economy Macroeconomics, International Trade and International Financial History. One scholarship will be reserved for applicants with a research project in the area of Trans-national Crime. An additional scholarship is reserved for candidates with a research project in the area of Politics of European and Regional Integration.

The programme is conducted entirely in English and will be taught by members of the university’s multi-national faculty. No tuition fees apply. The programme offers number of full scholarships renewable for three years subject to satisfactory academic appraisal. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and will be augmented by 50% for authorised research periods spent abroad. At least 50% of the admitted candidates will be offered scholarships.
