INTRODUCTION

These scholarships are aimed at highly qualified exchange students and young research scientists from the above mentioned countries, who wish to immerse themselves into studies in Danish language and culture, or fields of study otherwise related to Denmark such as design, or environmental studies, and so on.

Students who are enrolled in a full degree-programme in Denmark are not considered exchange students and are not eligible for a scholarship.

Please notice that only postgraduate students can apply for the scholarships. However, for studies in Danish language and literature, students can apply already at bachelor level, provided they have studied Danish language 2 years previous to their arrival to Denmark.

The scholarship funds for the Cultural Agreements are gathered into a single pool for long-term study periods (exept for China, Japan, Israel, Egypt and Russia) and Danish summer language courses. This means that the 23 countries concerned are not guaranteed an exact number of scholarships. An individual assessment will be carried out by The Danish Agency for International Education based on certain criteria, explained in the paragraph “Selection Criteria” below.

The scholarship amount for long-term periods will however remain unchanged, with a monthly stipend of 5,000 DKK. The Danish Government Scholarships cover tuition fees and living expenses for one person only.

Scholarship Application Deadline :

The deadline for applications for long term study periods is 28th of February 2011.
The deadline for applications for summer language courses is 28th of March 2011.

The European College of Liberal Arts (ECLA) in Berlin announces its ninth International Summer University: “The Mantle of the Prophet: Demons, Saints and Terrorists”, which takes place from July 7th to August 15th 2008.

The key text is Dostoyevsky’s Demons, and the keynote theme derives from the oft-repeated reference to Dostoyevsky as “prophet.” During the six-week course, Demons becomes a central text around which to explore major moral, religious and political issues. These include the historical and intellectual roots of terrorism, its embodiments from state terror to individual violence, and its expression of nihilist and existential questions. In addressing these issues, students and faculty will augment their discussions through the reading of a variety of complementary philosophical, literary and historical texts. In addition, the special Explore Berlin component of the curriculum introduces students to some of the rich cultural offerings of the city.

Hallmarks of the programme are: small seminar groups, regular writing assignments, individual attention in one-on-one tutorials, and a close-knit international community of students and faculty that resides on campus. Students from all levels of undergraduate and graduate education are welcome.

A comprehensive programme fee of 4500 Euros covers tuition, campus accommodation, full board, books on loan, reading materials, class excursions, emergency medical insurance, internet access and transportation passes.

Financial aid is available. ECLA is committed to providing financial assistance grants to all successful applicants based on demonstrated financial need.

The application deadline is April 10th 2008.

Visit www.ecla.de for further details or contact the Admissions Office at admissions@ecla.de

The European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) and the Venice International University (VIU) are pleased to announce their annual European Summer School in Resource and Environmental Economics for postgraduate students.

The 2008 Summer School will take place from the 6th to the 12th of July, at the VIU campus on the Island of San Servolo, in Venice, located just in front of St. Mark`s Square. The theme of this Summer School is Space in Unified Models of Economy and Ecology.

The purpose of this Summer School is to review and present methods of modeling spatial problems in ecological economics, and to show how these methods can be used in environmental and resource management. In this context the Summer Schools is expected to cover issues associated with:

the use of diffusion processes to model evolution in time and space

the emergence of steady state spatial patterns

applications of spatial methods to environmental and resource management and regulation problems, where space is important as in cases of patchy environments, species movements, pollution diffusion

These problems could include harvesting of renewable resources, management of pollution diffused in space, bioinvasions, elements of spatial econometrics and GIS.

FACULTY and LECTURE TOPICS
Anastasios XEPAPADEAS, Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece School Coordinator
