In recognition of the British High Commissioner to Malaysia H.E. Boyd McCleary’s support, BSG announced the establishment of The British High Commissioner’s scholarship.

Scholars are selected by the High Commissioner. Successful applicants will be Malaysians from an economically disadvantaged background, who show a high potential for academic excellence.

The scholarship, each worth RM600,000, is fully funded by BSG. Full scholarships include all fees, materials, uniforms and lunches, and cover education from primary year five through to A levels.

For details on the scholarship, contact The British School at 03-7727-7775, log on to www.bskl.org.my or email admissions@bskl.org.my

Overview

One of the primary objectives of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences is the provision of co-ordinated training for both medically qualified and non-medical graduates. Because the causes and treatment of brain dysfunction and damage are so varied, and the processes that determine whether or not the brain will recover from damage are equally diverse, the research training offered is strongly cross-disciplinary. The strength of the Department is that it can offer training across the range of clinically-related neuroscience, with expertise drawn from its four constituents: Cambridge Centre for Brain Repair, Neurology Unit, Neurosurgery Unit and the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre. Many graduate research projects span two or more of these units.

How to apply

If you would like to apply for a PhD place within the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, we suggest that you follow the procedure outlined below:
Have a look at the projects on offer for 2010.
Click on the links attached to each supervisor to find out more about the lab offering the project. If you have a query relating to the project (and not the applications procedure) please contact the supervisor using the e-mail address provided.

Complete an application form and return it together with an up-to-date CV, preferably via email, to Mrs Sue Martin (mailto:sjm57@cam.ac.uk, Business & Operations Manager, Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Box 165, Level 5 & 6 A Block, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Hills Road, Cambridge, UK no later than Monday 14 December 2009 (NOTE: applicants from the USA see below).

To get information on the Graduate School of Life Sciences, click here. All the Department’s graduate students are members of the Graduate School.

Access to knowledge is our passion. When it comes to higher education for promising scholars, we do not want anything to stand in the way. That is why we are pleased to announce the Google Europe Scholarship for Students with Disabilities. Google is committed to helping the innovators of the future make the most of their talents by providing scholarships and networking retreats for computer science students with disabilities. This scholarship aims to help dismantle barriers that keep students with disabilities from entering computing, encourage them to excel in their studies and become active role models and leaders in creating technology.

Multiple scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates’ academic performance and demonstrated passion for computer science. A group of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students will be chosen from the applicant pool. Applications will be reviewed by a committee of researchers and engineers. The scholarship recipients will each receive a € 7,000 (or equivalent) scholarship for the 2010/2011 academic year.

In June 2010, all scholarship recipients will be invited to visit Google’s Engineering Centre in Zurich for an all-expenses-paid networking retreat. It will include workshops with a series of speakers, panels, breakout sessions and social activities, and will provide an opportunity to meet and share experiences.

Eligibility requirements

Candidates must be:

•A student entering the final year of a Bachelor’s degree, or enrolled in a Master’s or PhD programme (or equivalent), in 2010/2011.
•Enrolled at a University in Europe. Citizens, permanent residents, and international students with disabilities studying at a University in Europe are eligible to apply.
•Studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics, or a closely related technical field.
•A person with a disability. The term persons with disabilities is used to apply to all persons with disabilities including those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which, in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.
