<p><strong>INTRODUCTION</strong></p>
<p>Scholarships are awarded for basic university programs (<strong>university degree, bachelor programs</strong>), or, in case the students have already completed studies in their home country, for Master programs.</p>
<ul>
<li>Support is provided in particular to students who want to take studies in the areas of technology, natural science and economic science</li>
<li>The scholarship is granted for studies in Austria. Scholarship holders are expected to complete their studies in Austria</li>
<li> Scholarships will not be awarded to students who are already studying in Austria</li>
<li> Support for up to 4 years, or for the minimum duration of the respective studies. Scholarships are granted for one year each. The extension of the scholarship will depend on the student’s success</li>
<li>Financial support for the tuition fees, living expenses and books of up to € 12.000,- for an academic year (further scholarships will be deducted from this amount)</li>
<li> Travel scholarship, if necessary, of up to € 1.000,- per year</li>
<li> Advice and support for the scholarship holders in connection with visa, insurance, language courses and search for accommodation</li>
<li> The Board of the foundation is exclusively responsible for the selection of students</li>
<li> The scholarship holders of the “Austrian Student Scholarship” are not required in any event to work for the Mondi Group after completing their studies</li>
<li>Maximum of 40 Scholarship holders (admission of 10 to 14 scholarship holders each year).</li>
<li>What we require:</li>
<li> *Applications can be made by nationals of African, Asian, Central and Eastern European Countries and Austrian citizens, who:</li>
<li> can furnish proof of being eligible for admission to an Austrian university or a university in their respective country of residence (proof of eligibility for university admission in the country where the school-leaving certificate was issued)</li>
<li> * are interested in studying at an Austrian university or technical college, or an Austrian school similar to these institutions and graduating from these</li>
<li> * are not older than 23 years (upon expiry of the application deadline).</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Biocenter PhD program was created in 1993 with the aim of providing biology students from all over the world with the possibility for training and research in the attractive scientific environment of the Vienna Biocenter. Successful candidates are accepted as PhD students initially for three years with the possibility of an extension into the fourth year. The PhD degree will be obtained from the Life Sciences Faculty of the Vienna University or the Medical University of Vienna. Apart from practical training and work in the laboratory, the following activities are intergral parts of the PhD program.</p>
<p>Requirements:<br />
Highly qualified applicants from all over the world are invited to apply, provided that they are not older than 30 years. All applicants must hold or anticipate receiving a university degree within 2009. This university degree should qualify for the start of a doctorate thesis in their home country and ideally should be equivalent to a European university diploma/degree.</p>

    * Alternatively download the application form directly from this website, complete it carefully and return it as PDF to phd-office-at-mfpl.ac.at as soon as possible and before the deadline. Make sure that your e-mail attachment is not larger than 1MByte! If sending from another ones e-mailaccount please do not forget to add your (own) e-mail address for replying you!<br />
    * We do not accept any hardcopies (post, fax, express deliveries)!</p>
<p>Letter of recommendation:<br />
We request letters of recommendation from two scientists who are familiar with your academic work and who can judge your potential as a PhD student.</p>
<p>Please forward the enclosed letters (a template can be downloaded here.) to the referees and ask them to send their recommendation directly to the dean of the PhD Programme.</p>
<p>A pdf file of the recommendation letter printed on the referee´s official paper and signed by the referee should be sent by email to phd-office-at-mfpl.ac.at.</p>
<p>The student himself / herself is responsible for obtaining the letters and should actively inquire with the respective referees whether the letters have been sent.<br />
Please note that we will be unable to process your application without letters of recommendation. These letters are therefore an essential part of your application, and it is your responsibility to ensure that the referees write to us before May 15, 2009.</p>
<p>Selection procedure and admission:<br />
Complete applications will be reviewed by a selection committee consisting of group leaders of the Vienna Biocenter. The short-listed candidates will receive invitations to visit the Vienna Biocenter for a five-day period of interviews and information exchange. These interviews will take place in January 2010. Travel expenses will be reimbursed, and free accommodation will be provided. Offers of admission will be made to the successful candidates at the end of the interview period.</p>
