Three Leadership Scholarships are awarded to students from any country in the University of Edinburgh Business School. Each scholarship has a value of £10,000.

Eligibility

The scholarships are open to individuals applying for admission onto the full-time MBA or MBA in International Business in September 2010 who have an excellent academic record and who can demonstrate leadership potential.

Although applications for the scholarships should be made before 31 May 2010, the scholarships will only be awarded to applicants who have accepted their offer through payment of the deposit. Applicants who hold full sponsorships are not eligible for the scholarship.

If an applicant is awarded a scholarship, but subsequently declines their offer of admission on the MBA programme, the award of the scholarship will be withdrawn and awarded to another applicant.

Those that apply for a Leadership Scholarship, but are unsuccessful will be automatically considered for a Director’s Scholarship.

Application Procedure

Applicants should submit a 1,000 word essay explaining why they feel that they should be awarded a leadership scholarship, demonstrating their leadership potential, and outlining how the scholarship will benefit them. This essay should accompany their application for the MBA programme.

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and demonstrated leadership potential. In keeping with our values-led MBA philosophy rooted in the Scottish Enlightenment, we are looking for highly motivated and principled individuals who demonstrate the potential to make significant future contributions to their chosen field and the wider community. The decision will be made by a committee consisting of Directors and key staff from Admissions.

If you have already accepted an offer and paid your deposit, you are welcome to apply separately for a scholarship. Please e-mail your application with the title ‘Leadership Scholarship’ in the subject matter to mba@business-school.ed.ac.uk – Please ensure that your full name and contact details as stated in your programme application match those on your scholarship application.

The closing date for applications is 31 May 2010

Selection Procedure

The winners of the scholarships will be announced by the Business School on 1 July 2010. The successful applicants will be invited to attend an awards ceremony early on in the programme.

The University of Edinburgh Business School
7 Bristo Square
Edinburgh
EH8 9AL UK
E-mail: mba@business-school.ed.ac.uk

An award may be withdrawn if a student fails to meet the academic standards set by the University.

As a part of the celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of DICE (the Durrell Institute for Conservation and Ecology) and thanks to the generous support of the Garfield Weston Foundation, we are offering a number of fully funded scholarships for international students at taught Masters level in 2010. The scholarships will be for one year of study covering the cost of tuition fees and £12,000 for maintenance. The scholarships are available to nationals of any country paying international fees (excluding European Union, USA and Canada) for the following programmes:

1. MSc Conservation Biology
2. MSc Conservation and Tourism
3. MSc Conservation and Rural Development

Priority will be given to students from developing biodiversity-rich countries that are facing pressing conservation challenges. These are highly competitive awards aimed at talented conservation practitioners who have the potential to make a real difference in biodiversity conservation and management in their home countries. Successful applicants must demonstrate at least one year`s practical experience working in conservation. They must also demonstrate that they have applied elsewhere for scholarship funding.

HOW TO APPLY
Application for a scholarship is a two-stage process. First, you must apply for a place on one of the three MSc programmes through the University of Kent online postgraduate admissions process and meet all the admissions criteria. This must be done by 30 April 2010. Failure to provide all the application material (including two references) by this date may result in you being ineligible for the scholarships.

Once you have received a formal offer letter, you are then eligible to apply for a scholarship. To do this, you must send the following information to the address below by 31 May 2010:

1. A cover letter and personal statement of <500 words summarising your academic and professional career so far and stating clearly why you wish to undertake the MSc programme at DICE.
2. Alternative funding sources to which you have applied for support in coming to DICE for the MSc programme. The list must state whether your application was successful, unsuccessful or is under review, and must be supported by evidence (in the form of copies of applications or letters from the funder).
3. A letter of support from a conservation organisation that is familiar with your work. They should fully explain how they think you would benefit from training at MSc level and how you would be likely to put this training into practice upon completion.

These three documents should be sent by email or post to:

Shelley Malekia
Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology
School of Anthropology and Conservation
University of Kent
Marlowe Building
Canterbury
Kent CT2 7NR, United Kingdom.

Email: S.Malekia@kent.ac.uk
Telephone: + 44 (0) 1227 827928
Fax: + 44 (0) 1227 827289

We expect to inform candidates whether or not they have been successful by mid-July 2010

International prize studentships for PhD research 2010, Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance, UK

The Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (http://www.sicsa.ac.uk) is a collaboration of leading Scottish Universities whose aim is to work together to consolidate and extend Scotland’s position as an international research leader in computer science and informatics. As part of this, the Scottish Graduate Academy in Informatics and Computer Science offers up to 20 international prize studentships per year to outstanding candidates who wish to study for a PhD in Scotland.

These studentships are open to excellent excellent from any country. There are no residency or citizenship requirements. We will consider applicants in any area of computer science and informatics but may give preference to students who are working in SICSA theme areas (http://www.sicsa.ac.uk/themes)

Next-generation Internet

Multi-modal interaction

Modelling and abstraction

Complex systems engineering

SICSA prize studentships are worth around £18, 000 per year for 3 years. They include support for living expenses of at least £12, 940, research expenses and a contribution towards postgraduate fees at the UK standard Home/EU rate (currently £3400). Students who are not UK/EU residents must pay the higher overseas student fee of around £11,500 per year. However, if you are awarded a SICSA studentship, you may apply to the admitting university for additional support to cover the difference in fees. The award of a SICSA studentship does not guarantee such support.

Students must have or must expect to be awarded a 1st class honours degree, an MSc with Distinction or equivalent GPA scores. Your degree must be in a discipline that is relevant to your proposed field of research.

For more details of how to apply for a SICSA prize studentship, see the SICSA web pages.

Applicants for international prize studentships MUST complete an application for postgraduate admission to their preferred university as well as a SICSA studentship application. If you don’t complete both a university application and an online SICSA application then your studentship application will not be considered.

Applications must be received by 30th April 2010. We will tell you as soon as possible after this date if you have been awarded a studentship. Our aim is to make all offers by early Mid June 2010.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Programme
Call for applications

Forest and Nature for Society (FONASO) is a three-year world-class global Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate programme. The main objective of the Programme is to educate the leaders of the future generation of researchers, teachers and top management staff working with sustainable forest and nature management, in both tropical and temperate regions, to ensure wider societal benefits. Within forest and nature management, the Programme is focused on the scientific fields of (i) economics and policy, and (ii) ecology and silviculture. Emphasis is on applied research.

FONASO is offered by a global Consortium that includes globally top ranked universities and leading international research organisations. The Consortium consists of the twelve partner institutions: (i) University of Copenhagen, Denmark, (ii) The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden, (iii) Bangor University, UK, (iv) Dresden University, Germany, (v) University of Göttingen, Germany, (vi) AgroParisTech, France, (vii) University of Padova, Italy, (viii) Center for International Forestry Research, Indonesia, (ix) Dalhoff Larsen & Hornemann, Denmark, (x) James Cook University, Australia, (xi) University of British Columbia, Canada, and (xii) World Agroforestry Centre,Kenya.

The FONASO Programme is a fully integrated three-year doctorate programme. It builds on existing research schools and environments, taking the best from each to build up joint supervision, activities and doctoral candidate courses. Each doctoral candidate will stay two years with a principal supervisor and one year with a co-supervisor. Doctoral candidates obtain either a joint degree or double degree depending on mobility track. The language of the Programme is English. There is one annual call for applications; short-listed applicants are invited to Europe to present and discuss their proposals.

Detailed information on the FONASO Joint Doctorate Programme is available on www.fonaso.eu, including application form and guidelines. Applications must be received no later than 16 November 2009. Short-listed candidates are notified by 1 December 2009. Interviews in Europe will take place in mid January 2010. Study start from summer/autumn 2010.

The scholarship will cover full tuition fees as well as tax-free living expenses of £13,290 per year (estimate at ESRC rate).

Your entry into the scholarship competition will require your acceptance onto the Doctoral Programme. Students who want to be considered for this scholarship competition should submit their postgraduate
application by 31 August 2009

at the latest. You can complete your Postgraduate Application in hardcopy or online at http://pgapps.nottingham.ac.uk.

Indicate that you are interested in this scholarship in the personal details section of the online postgraduate application form or section 3 of the hardcopy postgraduate application form. In response to the question ‘how do you expect to pay for you studies’ you need to state ‘ICCSR Second Round Scholarship applicant’.

You should also submit, with your application, your research proposal, two academic references, academic transcripts and English language (if required). Applicants should be available to begin their doctoral studies in September 2009.

Scholarship applications will be evaluated on the basis of former qualifications, academic background, references and research proposal. All of the documentation relating to this must be submitted by the scholarship deadline of 31 August 2009.

Your doctoral studies will be supervised by two academic members of staff (at least one of which will be a member of the ICCSR team) and therefore please ensure that a member of the ICCSR academic team is currently working in the area you are interested in studying. At this late stage candidates who have already entered into correspondence with a potential supervisor are more likely to be successful.

To give your application the best chance of success, then please pay particular attention to the following:
? The relevance of your project to your potential supervisors research interests
? The suitability of your topic for study at postdoctoral level
? The feasibility of completing your research within the timescales of a PhD
? The practicality of your research plans particularly with respect to the access you might be able to secure for data collection.
Further guidance on the application process, preparation of a research proposal and English language requirements are available on the doctoral programme pages of the Business School website. Further information about the ICCSR is available from the ICCSR website.
